Sunday Celebrations

Try our Sunday Celebrations, sharing generous tables laden with plentiful platters.

Families and friends gather around as they would at home but embracing other like-minded diners who have also come to delight in nature’s abundance and sip, if old enough, on fresh, elegant wines that express their lime-rich soils and proximity to the sea. We call it merroir – a blend of mer/sea and terroir.

Indigenous Tasting

Our Indigenous Tasting is a celebration of South Africa’s culinary heritage, bringing often-overlooked ingredients back to the table with inventive flair. Expect spekboom, bokkoms, roosterkoek, kaiings, amasi, Dexter biltong, and tangy Kei apple, each thoughtfully reimagined to honour tradition while embracing creativity.

The experience is completed with a line-up of estate-grown wines, expressive of our unique merroir, highlighting the natural harmony between land and table. We also offer a non-alcoholic pairing to celebrate indigenous ingredients, featuring local botanicals in cordials produced by our kitchens.

This tasting is a reminder of the rich diversity of flavours rooted in our land, and their seamless connection to our wines.

Geuwels

Geuwels is both Vergenoegd Löw’s beating wine heart and home to our casual but refined farm-to-table restaurant.

As in our cellar, where the grapes guide the winemaking, here the wines lead the menu. Each dish is inspired first by the wines, then by the farm’s bounty: hand-reared meats, farm butter and eggs, seasonal produce, and honey.

Guided by gastronomist Michelle Theron, whose work bridges heritage and innovation, every menu celebrates vineyard-to-table harmony. Explore estate-grown wines across curated themes, or savour our merroir-driven expressions alongside local flavours in a setting where seasons shape both mood and menu.

Geuwels,
The Building

Find us in the 18th century Cape Dutch building that was once the cellar. Geuwels (Dutch for gables) takes its name from the original gable found during restoration that you can still see exposed on the inside of the cellar. (In another of our restaurants, Clara’s Barn, you can also see this gable depicted in the picture painted by visiting Dutch artist Jan Brandes, who stayed on the farm between 1786 and 1787.) The name Geuwels also pays tribute to the building’s two end-gables.

Interiors are warm, inviting and echo the shades of clay and lime soils of the farm. Beautiful detailing in embroidered surfaces, vintage brass and reclaimed wood invite you to stop, stay and make the most of the moment.

Outdoor dining is always an option, if the Stellenbosch weather permits, as it so often does.
