Runner Duck Art
Manuela Holzer
Born in 1990, Manuela Holzer is a leading South African sculptress, who comes from a highly creative Austrian family. She was raised in Johannesburg and has studied at the University of Witwatersrand, the University of Johannesburg and Stellenbosch University (where she obtained her master’s in visual art). She is now a PhD candidate in creative fine arts production at the University of Pretoria and continues to exhibit her works widely throughout the country. She lives in Cape Town.

While she created the Indian Runner ducks seen across Vergenoegd Löw in bronze (and one finished in 23-carat gold leaf), she works in a variety of media. Much of her current focus is on the female form in what she calls “extreme states of the human psyche” as she explores the notion of the internal shadow. She says she is on “a mission to make the challenging states of the human psyche visible, relatable, and understandable through art.”
