Two wines from our Vergenoegd L\u00f6w Collection, the 2023 Vergenoegd L\u00f6w Sauvignon Blanc<\/a> and 2021 Vergenoegd L\u00f6w Merlot, were declared gold medal winners by the judging panel of the 2023 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 1997, Michelangelo has provided South African producers the chance to have their wines evaluated and rated by respected, skilled experts from around the world. A one-of-a-kind competition platform in Africa, judges hail from five continents. They might have different cultural values that impact taste preferences but when good is good, it\u2019s recognisable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why the Michelangelo golds earned by two of our wines mean so much to us. It tells us what the professionals think of our wines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We wish we could have offered you our other Michelangelo gold medal winner, the 2021 Vergenoegd L\u00f6w Merlot, but once the news was out, it was snapped up. All of it. You could of course, try the 2022 vintage.<\/a> This Merlot is just as juicy \u2013 generous crowd-pleaser with flavours of mulberries and spice. We\u2019re loving the newer vintage with butterflied leg of lamb grilled in the oven or over an open flame, with grilled ostrich or with burgers. And the magic ingredient in all these dishes. Mushrooms. Our merlot loves mushrooms in all shapes or forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tempo is less intense here on the farm, now the harvest is almost over. It won\u2019t be long before the cold steps up and the vines begin their winter rest. Vines, like us, need to reset, replenish and absorb the goodness of the earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are doing everything we can to restore the world around us. We place store by soil health and conservation and we\u2019re a proud WWF Conservation Champion<\/a> for our sustainability efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Prof Dr Dr Peter L\u00f6w bought the farm in 2015, he envisaged a mixed working farm, where heritage could be brought back to life with style. When you visit, you\u2019ll see the Indian Runner ducks and Dexter cattle<\/a> that enrich the soil and take care of some of the insects that might otherwise want to dine on the vines.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
