Imagine a perfect, wind-still, summer evening on a picturesque wine farm – add soothing violins, a chamber choir, soft guitar and song, enchanting stories from the past, superior wines, mouth-watering food in the company of special friends …
This was the mood at the Advent Harmonies event that Vergenoegd Löw hosted on Thursday, 7 December, the first of two events centred around the advent symbols of hope, peace, joy and love.
Guests each received a glass of Vergenoegd Löw Cap Classique upon arrival, while they mingled on the lawns in front of the Manor House and Geuwels restaurant. The sounds of a violin duo created a peaceful mood in the background. A starter of fishcake with mash and lemon sauce prepared by Geuwels chef, Drikus Brink and his team, set the standard for the culinary offering.
The evening kicked off at the Manor House where guests were further treated to harvest table dishes – frikadelle with a tomato-based sauce, beef bredie with butternut and stamp mielies ended off with slices of cremora tart – served with Vergenoegd Löw Shiraz.
Rooms in and around the Manor House were turned into intimate venues, where guests could listen to artists singing some familiar favourites and sharing fascinating stories from bygone eras. Guests wandered from station to station while sipping wines from the Vergenoegd Löw collection.
The last stop was at the Valentina chapel, Vergenoegd Löw’s newly-built ceremonial building. Here guests were treated to Glühwein and a special performance by chamber choir Vivox Voices, directed by Maria Viviers. They had guests in wonderment from the moment they entered the building. What a magical end to a perfect evening!
Like one of the guests said afterwards, ‘it feels as if you’re in another world here, closed off from the outside’.
The next event at the estate will be Jazz under the Stars, which takes place on Friday, 15 December from 18:00. It promises to be just as special as last year. Unfortunately, tickets for the event are now SOLD OUT.
