Let’s get some formalities out of the way: I am the SHE-half of NotSoFoodie.com. What’s a not-so-foodie? Well, I’ve mastered the art of eating a whole apple and occasionally slap together a mean pasta (big whoop, wanna fight about it?).
BUT, I love to stop morsels of awesome into my gob whenever possible. My pallet is well developed. I have great taste in wine (because, obvi). I’m obsessed with tasting ANYTHING (I’d eat rancid shellfish out of a can if I knew if wouldn’t kill me due to allergies… and indigestion). So, I’m a not-so-foodie. Let’s make it a thing, like CrossFit or being vegan.
To the point: Vergenoegd. Right, my chef friend, Ryan, is all think-out-of-the-box-y (like he legit put venison and a coffee koeksister on a plate at his previous job… and it blew my mind) and he was chosen to help redo the entire Vergenoegd Food & Beverage department – it was all part of bringing the farm back to life. So there I am, waiting for what he’s about to create…
Turns out, Vergenoegd is a smorgasbord of incredible experiences. From literally the most amazing picnic basket you’ll ever find to wine, coffee, tea and olive oil blending. And that’s only covering the consumables – let’s not even talk about the beauty of the farm, the comical, yet indispensable runner ducks, the hatchery, the lawns, and and and….
I’m at a loss for words, really, but I can say this: it’s become something of a favourite place for me. A place where I feel at one with nature, happy for my whirlwind explorer daughter to go on her crazy adventures, a place I’m very proud to be associated with, albeit through being a not-so-foodie, obsessed with shoving new food into my face.
You see, when a wine farm puts in the effort to be so much more than a place where you can taste wine and eat food, that’s when this not-so-foodie pays attention…big time.
